Physiotherapy

What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is the means of assessing and treating physical problems and pain caused by muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments and nerves dysfunction.

We will look at the movement of the joints that are affected and the strength and flexibility of the soft tissue surrounding those joints. We can then build a picture to the cause of your symptoms and start treatment.

An important part of our assessment is to find out what your individual rehabilitation needs are. For example if you do any sports that have specific demands we will take that into consideration when choosing a treatment plan to get you back to what you need and want to do.

Assessment and Treatment

A full thorough personalised assessment of your condition takes between 45 minutes to an hour, this will include your first treatment session too . Your physiotherapist will take time at the end of the assessment to discuss your diagnosis and options for your treatment plan (if necessary). At In Peak Health we try to source the cause of your pain and not just treat the symptoms.

Follow-up treatment sessions take half an hour and will be tailored to your specific needs of rehabilitation. Treatment may include some of the following points:

  • Mobilisation and manipulation of joints
  • Acupuncture
  • Ultrasound
  • Shockwave therapy
  • Muscle energy techniques
  • Trigger point release of muscle tissue
  • Myofascial release techniques
  • Functional taping or strapping
  • Exercises and advice to encourage self-management and prevent recurrences
